Making a Phone Call

I hadn't spoken to my brother in a few weeks. Life got busy and we were traveling and, and, and. I was away during the Lou Gehrig Day (LGD) games and really missed not connecting with him in those few days. Baseball has always been a main connection with us and he's a bigger fan than I am. Not speaking to him was something I thought of quite a bit over the few weeks I was away.

I miss the days where I can, at any time, just call him up. Or get a fun, brotherly text chat going, busting each others b@lls. But, that's not really an option these days. So after being away for a few weeks, we set a time and had an awesome chat. We talked about my trip, our kids, my job and of course LGD - especially the Phils game!

This horrific disease has already taken so much away from him, but not his voice or his mind. We laughed and joked and it was great to catch up - as brothers should. He sounds like he always has.

I don't get to see him as much as I want so rely on our calls and although his voice is strong, there's something missing. That energy, that spark just isn't there like it used to. That's what I miss.

But, I'm committing to making these calls happen more often. To make sure we connect. Connections with people, especially the ones we love, are really all that we have.
