An Ode to Stuffed Grape Vine Leaves

Relegated to a feeding tube

Flavourless and bland

My thoughts drift to my mother's food

Made by her Armenian hands

Rice, meat and spices enveloped in green grape vine leaves

Resembling small cigars

Evoking distant memories

Of an upbringing from afar

Pungent acid of grape vine leaves break through to the warm inside

Of a little parcel wrapped with love

From a mother who built her life

On the world's other side

Delicious memories of those stuffed grape vine leaves

Help make the barrenness of an insipid feeding tube

Bearable.

Monica welcome to the group. I love the images and as I said in group, my husband’s family came here from Lebanon, and I did enjoy the stuffed grape leaves and stuffed cabbage!
